Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College holds first volleyball practice

PERKINSTON, Miss. (WXXV)- Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College officially stepped onto the volleyball court for the first time, holding its inaugural practice and marking the beginning of a brand-new era in bulldog athletics.

The addition of volleyball was announced earlier this year as part of MGCCC’s push to expand athletic opportunities and meet the growing interest in the sport across Mississippi and the Gulf Coast.

Volleyball continues to gain popularity at both the high school and collegiate levels throughout the region.

Players spent much of the first practice session working on passing, serving, and defensive drills while learning coach Walsh’s system.

The Bulldogs will begin play this fall starting August 23rd as they will travel to Bay Minette to play in a trimatch at Coastal Alabama, with the first home game coming two days later against Coastal Alabama-South in Perkinston.

All matches in the first season will be played at Dantzler Arena.
