IMMS scientists present findings at pesticide safety education program conference

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies hosted a seminar with approximately 80 regional attendees on Wednesday morning to help educate regional groups on issues that impact our local ecosystems.

It’s called the Mississippi Pesticide Safety Education Program conference.

The event focused on the effects of Mississippi River Diversions, particularly through the Bonnet Carre Spillway on the Mississippi Sound.

The one-hour presentation featured several IMMS scientists sharing their research and efforts related to the impact of diversions on marine mammals and sea turtles.

The seminar aligned with the conference’s mission to promote the safe and responsible use of pesticides, with an emphasis on protecting applicators, the public, and environment.
