City of Gautier approves second phase of Legacy Park project

GAUTIER, Miss. (WXXV) — Legacy Park in Gautier will soon enter the second phase of construction following approval by the city on Tuesday night.

Mayor Casey Vaughan and City Council members voted unanimously — with one abstaining member — to begin the biggest part of the project.

“They will be issued their permit to go ahead and start construction on the first building on the property,” Vaughan explained. “So, it’s very exciting news here in Gautier. The permitting they have now has been for the site work, as you can see from the site. They are diligently working.”

The multi-use development is set to include retail, residential, dining and medical spaces, as well as other amenities.

Even though the project is will underway, Vaughan explains that there is still plenty of room for growth.

“They’re continuing to work, continuing to lease space, continuing to recruit tenants to the property to be a part of the project,” Vaughan said.

Tuesday’s meeting brought one more unexpected announcement, this one relating to funding for more additions to Legacy Park.

“It was not on the agenda due to the short notice of the deadline to apply, but Gulf Coast Restoration Funds, as we know — also known as BP Funds — there’s an application process to submit,” Vaughan explained. “So, the City Council is supportive of this development, along with myself, and we want them to add as much amenities as they can for the development for our citizens.”

Vaughan also told WXXV that more big news regarding Legacy Park is possible in the coming months.
