Wiggins Fire Department holds junior academy

WIGGINS, Miss. (WXXV)-An inaugural youth firefighting program took place at the Wiggins Fire Department on Thursday.

The event provided hands on training in fire safety, first aid, fitness challenges, as well as a chance to meet some firefighters.

Junior cadets aged 7 to 12 experienced engaging activities with local firefighters.

Everything from touring equipment, learning safety drills, and even participating in simulated scenarios in a fun, controlled environment.

Cadets were encouraged to wear a red shirt, khaki shorts, and tennis shoes. Snacks and drinks were provided for the classes.

The academy was led by Chief Steven Purvis who served as the chief instructor.

The program will be held again at the Wiggins City Fire Department Friday, July 11 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
