BREAKING: Gulfport High School has announced Myles Gentry as new Head Baseball Coach.

Gulfport High School is celebrating that Myles Gentry has been offered and accepted the role as the newHead Baseball Coach,  Gulfport Athletic Director Matt Walters has confirmed the recent actions and stated a school board meeting will take place July 7th to confirm the hire. Most recently, Gentry was on the baseball staff at Samford University as the Director of Player Development. 

The future skipper’s coaching experience began in 2017 where he was named an Assistant Coach at Jones College until 2019. After his first stop at Jones, Gentry was the Pitching Coach at Desoto Central where the Jaguar pitching staff posted a 3.07 ERA with 265 strikeouts which ultimately led to the MHSAA 6A State Quarterfinals in his final season. He returned to Jones College in 2021-2023 as the Bobcat’s pitching coach. Under his leadership, Jones had the third-best ERA in MACCC. On August 2nd of 2023, Gentry became the Director of Player Development at Samford University where he was until accepting this new role at Gulfport.

Gentry is a familiar face to Gulfport baseball program, suiting up for the Admirals from 2008-2012. During his time there, he was selected MAC All-State, ESPNHS All-State, and participated in the Crossroads Diamond Club All-Star game.

His college baseball roots run deep in Mississippi, playing for Mississippi State University from 2013-2015 and pitching in the College World Series finals as a freshman. That year Gentry was the reliever in 23 games possessing a 4-1 record with 30 strikeouts and a 3.69 ERA.

Gentry graduated from MSU in May of 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Sports Studies and Communication. He went on to get his Masters in Sports Administration from Arkansas State University in 2023.
