Southern Rail Commission officials give update on Amtrak Service
GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- We’re learning more about when we may finally be getting restored Amtrak service to South Mississippi.
Southern Rail Commission Chairman Knox Ross spoke at today’s Gulfport Rotary meeting.
Ross touched on ways people can prepared ahead of the start of the new Mardi Gras service between Mobile and New Orleans.
One of those ways is by downloading the Amtrak app, which has more on fares, policies, and details on other services.
Ross also gave us a hint today about when the date for the start of the new service may be announced. “We’re excited that we will soon have the promised service between Mobile and New Orleans. The Mardi Gras Service is going to be a terrific addition to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The official word is late summer; we’re hoping late July or early August barring any unseen issues, especially in Mobile. But we’re getting very close to officially announce and officially put out ticket prices and scheduling. That will be coming out the next few weeks. Amtrak.com/MardiGrasService. There’s a landing page there, has all the stops. Tells you what you can bring on the train, how to bring a pet, bring golf clubs, all the things you want to do.”
Amtrak will make stops in Pascagoula, Biloxi, Gulfport, and Bay St. Louis.
