An Outstanding Southern Miss Baseball season comes to an end at the Hattiesburg Regional
Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, and what outstanding things the Southern Miss baseball team did this 2025 season.
A 47-16 overall record, 246 in conference play, an 18 game winning streak, a new single-season home run record of 106, seven members on the Sun Belt Conference team, the Sun Belt player of the year, the Ferris Trophy winner, and finally hosting yet another NCAA Regional.
Head Coach Christian Ostrander discusses their remarkable season, while Southern Miss leaders Carson Paetow and Matt Adams reflect on their incredible careers as Golden Eagles.
“There’s nothing for them to be ashamed of because they’ve competed their tails off all year,” said Christian Ostrander. “You don’t win 47 games and accomplish what they’ve accomplished if you didn’t have something special other than just talent. Starting back in August with these men and just the bond you build, the team you try to create, the unity, and the brotherhood. This group did a phenomenal job of that. It was one of the most powerful, player lead teams I’ve ever been associated with, and that’s a credit to guys like Carson and guys like that and so many others that are hurting right now because this is over.”
“The coaches teach us everything we know. Eventually they hand it over to us, the leaders on the team and what not, to take it upon ourselves to create a winning culture and a loving team and close-bonded team,” said senior right fielder Carson Paetow. “It’s the coaches that make it so special and then the teammates. The relationships we’ve built on and off the field, mostly off the field, and definitely the fans too. They make it really awesome.”
“It’s a home,” said right-handed pitcher Matt Adams. “I tell people all the time, going back and forth to Houston and Hattiesburg, it doesn’t feel any different to me. I have two families in different parts of the country, and I’m thankful Oz came and flew to watch me and give me the opportunity that he did. I wouldn’t trade these six years for anything. I don’t wish I didn’t get hurt. I don’t wish that I didn’t suck when I first got here. I don’t wish any of those things. I think God’s plan was perfect these six years, and I’m just so thankful.
What a remarkable year for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles!
