Red Snapper Fishing Season Opens

Recreational anglers hope to reel in red snappers now that the extended federal season is open. Recreational anglers in Mississippi will have 39 days to fish for red snapper in state and federal waters. Each week through September fourth red snapper season will be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. State and federal waters will also be open Monday, July third; Tuesday July fourth; and Monday, September fourth. Recreation anglers may be all smiles, but other fishermen have concerns about the extension.

Clarence Seymour with Charter Boat S Y L said, “The fleet is concerned about the 39 day recreational season getting over the ACL which could also adverse effect the 2018 red snapper season for all private anglers, charter boats, for hire, and it could be a zero season for next year.”

Anglers are required to log their trip information to the DMR program Tails ‘n Scales. You can download the app on your phone, head to their website, or contact the call center.
