Special Needs Summer Camp in Ocean Springs
A group of special needs students are learning all about the arts in Ocean Springs this week.
Boys and girls in the Special Needs Summer Camp were getting their boogie on at the Mary C. O’Keefe Cultural Arts Center this afternoon. In the three day summer camp, special needs children are doing activities with a focus on art, music, and theater. The camp is led by the South Mississippi Special Needs Organization.
Volunteers tell News 25 it’s a great opportunity for the kids to interact, learn, and have fun and the campers say they agree. Summer camper Samantha said, “Camp is fun because you get to try stuff and be around people.”
Summer camper Hannah said, “My favorite part is music. I like music and drama class and art. Art is a lot of fun.”
The campers are having a fundraiser talent show tomorrow night at 7 p.m. The duo band Darwin and Dana Nelson will lead the show inside the Mary C. Theatre. Admission is free and donations will go to programs for special needs kids on the Coast.
