Storm siren testing in Biloxi
Biloxi residents will soon hear sirens once a month as part of the city’s emergency warning system.
The tests will begin on July 5th and continue on the first Wednesday of every month during hurricane season. Ten warning sirens located throughout the city will go off for approximately one minute at noon.
The sirens are to help alert residents to the impending dangers of a tornado or hurricane. Cecilia Dobbs Walton with the City of Biloxi Public Affairs said, “The sirens will go off during the testing for one minute. When there’s a real storm in the area, the siren will go off for three minutes long. That will be the way for residents to know the difference for when it’s just a testing and when there’s a real storm in the area.”
In addition to preparing the residents with warning tones, the City of Biloxi is also hosting three preparedness outreach events next week.
