Deadly Shooting Outside Pass Christian Gas Station

Arnold Scarborough has been charged with first degree murder after shooting his 50 year-old son around 5:30 this morning outside of C&J Quick Stop in Pass Christian. News 25’s Laurene Callander was on the scene and has the details.
Yellow crime scene tape blocked off part of the C&J Quick Stop parking lot as family members wrapped their arms around one another with tears in their eyes, trying to grasp what led to the early morning shooting that took the life of 50-year-old Darrin Scarborough. Andrew L was a witness. He said, “My cousin Tommy, he said he heard three shots and I looked around the corner and I seen someone laying on the ground.”
The alleged shooter is a relative of the victim. Witnesses tell News 25 an argument broke out between the two and then things turned violent. “He said ‘I just had to shoot him.’ I said, ‘he tried to rob ya?’ and he said ‘no, that’s my son.’ I said, ‘your son?’ and he said ‘yeah, he shoved me down on the ground’,” said Andrew.
Police swarmed the area throughout the early morning hours, trying to piece it all together as relatives looked on in grief and shock. Police Chief Tim Hendricks said, “We’re just questioning witnesses, looking to see if we have any video of the incident and we’re also talking with the actual person, the family member, the shooter. We have confirmed that.”
As investigators tried to unravel this tangled family web, locals who frequently visit this popular spot tried to take it all in. Residents say the quick stop is generally a quiet place, so the deadly shooting comes as a shock. “I come to the gas station like every day. I’m up here every day, sometimes two or three times a day. It’s very quiet out here in the Pass. When they say someone was killed out here, it’s unusual because it’s very quiet,” said Pass Christian resident Franchesca Dotson.
