Biloxi PD honors fallen officers at ceremony
BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- On Wednesday, family, friends, and Biloxi Police officers gathered to remember the lives of five officers killed in the line of duty over the years.
Today’s Fallen Officer Ceremony is a tradition for the department on or near National Police Week each year.
It’s a way for all who have been impacted by the loss of an officer to reflect on their sacrifices and the major role law enforcement officers play in our society.
Biloxi police leaders spoke to us this morning on what this ceremony means to everyone involved. Lt. Candace Young said, “It’s something we try to do every year. We typically do it around National Police Week, it’s an opportunity for us to gather and remember those of our officers who died in the line of duty. I can’t image what they feel on a daily basis knowing what we feel as a department. I think I would take comfort knowing my loved one is part of something larger, that’s what I hope they gather from this. Even though their loved ones are not physically here with us, they are here with us. We see them on the walls every day.”
The ceremony also comes just days after the anniversary of Officer Robert McKeithen’s death, which happened six years ago on May 5, 2019.
