Ocean Springs baseball advances to second round of MHSAA playoffs with 6-5 win over Northwest Rankin

Ocean Springs used a big second inning to survive and advance in the MHSAA playoffs, defeating Northwest Rankin 6-5 on Tuesday night.

The Cougars struck first with a run in the opening inning, but the Greyhounds quickly put bat to ball and took advantage of a handful of errors to string together a four-run second inning. The visiting squad managed to tie things up at 4 runs apiece late in the game, before Ocean Springs pulled away for good.

Cannon Hensarling pitched a complete game with six strikeouts to improve to 4-1 on the season. He also added a hit and drew a walk on offense.

Justin San Miguel and AJ Arguello combined for four hits, two doubles and three runs batted in.

The Greyhounds will welcome Brandon to “The Tom” for the second round of playoff action beginning on Friday, May 2nd, at 7 p.m.
