BREAKING: Man Dies After Being Tased by Police Officer

On April 23, 2016 at approximately 4:27 p.m., the Gulfport Police Department responded to Shaggy’s Restaurant located at 1724 East Beach Boulevard in reference to a report of an erratic/ disorderly male inside the business. Upon arrival, officers were given information that the adult male was outside the business. The officers located the described male and attempted to investigate the complaint.

At that time, the suspect was resistive resulting in an officer deploying a taser to subdue the suspect who was then arrested. After being handcuffed, the 53-year-old suspect continued his erratic behavior resulting in American Medical Response (AMR) being summoned to the scene.

The suspect was later transported to an area hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead. Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove was then summoned to the hospital. Due to the nature and circumstances of this case, the Harrison County District Attorney’s and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations were contacted for further investigation.
