Mario King wins Moss Point mayoral election
Residents of Moss Point have a new mayor in 30-year-old Democrat Mario King.
In Tuesday’s election, King went up against Incumbent Mayor Billy Broomfield, Republican John Mosely Jr., and Independents Wanda Williams and Timothy Dubose. King came out on top with 1,686 votes, Broomfield with 247, and Mosely with 630 votes.
King says his first plans are infrastructure, financial stability, and understanding where the city currently stands, along with blending younger and older relationships. “We want to blend innovation with wisdom and I think when you do that and you think like that you become an over-comer. I think that’s how we were also successful. To not look at it as ‘oh, these are old people. Oh, this is getting rid of the old’ because I need them and I want them to be involved. They built Moss Point and I think that my goal is to just sustain what they already did and to improve it.”
King says he’s ready to face the challenges and make changes when he takes the mayor’s seat on July 1st.
