DMR working on Deer Island habitat restoration
DEER ISLAND, Miss. (WXXV)- Have you spotted a barge and crane near Deer Island recently? There’s a good reason for that.
The Department of Marine Resources is working on island habitat restoration. A project is in process to restore 70 acres of tidal marsh and chenier habitat.
The program will combat coastal land loss and protect fish and wildlife.
Currently, the cranes are being used to dredge sediments to rebuild the marshland.
