AG Fitch provides updates on immigration

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)-Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch was on the Coast Thursday morning to talk to South Mississippi business leaders about the many initiatives her office is tackling right now.

The big news released by the AG is that her office will now partner with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on managing illegal aliens charged with crimes in Mississippi, including helping ICE with certain deportation matters.

Here’s what AG Fitch had to say about this task force at the Gulf Coast Business Council’s meeting in Gulfport. “We’ve seen an influx of illegal immigrants into our country, in our state. We’re working with President Trump and the administration again, for us it’s to protect Mississippians and the infringement of criminals in our community. We just signed an MOU with ICE. All of my certified law enforcement officers will be trained, work together with the many partners that will be working on this project to remove and find these criminals that are here and have them deported.”

Fitch also touched on her office’s efforts to combat human trafficking and the opioid epidemic in our state during the meeting.
