Change coming to Mega Millions price
WXXV- Big changes are on the way for the Mega Millions lottery.
The cost of a single ticket will jump up from $2 to $5 each. While that may not be welcome news to players, officials say that with the increase, jackpot sizes will go way up.
Jackpots will now start at $50 million instead of the current $20 million. The average jackpot is expected to exceed $800 million, up from around $450 million.
The odds of winning the jackpot will also be better, improving to 1 in 290.5 million, thanks in part to the number ball in the gold Mega Ball poll shrinking from 25 to 24.
Officials say the odds of winning any prize will also improve slightly to 1-in-23.
The last drawing under the current rules will take place on April 4th. If no one wins that jackpot, it will roll over into the revamped game.
