Hattiesburg Zoo announces death of jaguar Maya
The Hattiesburg Zoo announced the death of their jaguar, Maya.
Keepers at the zoo say Maya had developed kidney disease in January and was being treated.
Maya initially responded well to treatments, but started to experience age-related issues as of late.
Zoo staff ultimately came to the decision that it was in Maya’s best interest to administer life-ending treatment Wednesday morning.
Staff did, however, give Maya an early birthday surprise on Monday, decorating her enclosure with Taylor Swift inspired signs. Her birthday would have been on May 22nd.
