Jackson County preparing for Sand Jam 2021
Jackson County is gearing up for an event dedicated to the celebration of Mississippi turtles.
Preparation for Sand Jam 2021 is happening in the sandiest way possible! The first ever Sand Jam is a sand sculpting event for children ages 17 and under.
Participators will be tasked with sculpting Mississippi turtles out of sand.
Event coordinators, along with some very excited sand sculptors, spent the morning having fun in the sun and learning the importance of the upcoming event. Event Coordinator Barb Medlock said, “Our three goals are get out, have fun, and enjoy the beach. Also, how do we help take care of our Mississippi wildlife? Help our wildlife survive and take care of their habitats so that leads us to no trace left. Outdoor ethics. Take care of our outdoors. That’s the main thing.”
The event is scheduled for June 12th at Ocean Springs Front Beach. Team check in starts at 8 a.m. and sculpting kicks off at 9:30 a.m.
