Excel by 5 Learning under the Oaks ribbon cutting

Biloxi Excel by 5 Learning under the Oaks held their ribbon cutting today to celebrate new upgrades and new additions within the facility.

Excel by 5 was put in place to support families with children zero to five by encouraging community-based collaborations to figure out the best practices to use to help enhance existing resources that will optimize the care and education of young children by preparing them before entering school with the skills they need to succeed.

The ribbon cutting showcased their new interactive playground, a butterfly garden, and upgrades within the classroom. Excel by 5 Certification Manager Susan Hunt said, “Birth to five is the most impressionable years when learning takes place. So, that’s one of the things where the playground equipment is interactive and everything that we do inside of Lopez in our rooms are interactive rooms. I have nine interactive rooms. So, it’s all about preparing our children for kindergarten as well as adulthood.”

Excel by 5 State Board Member Chase McCullum said, “With the different type of resources, sensory type resources, resource library, and all the things that are here, they are designed to be really engaging for kids. So, you see some of the things are really active. They are kind of designed to look at different aspects of development for children. So, we are looking at that social piece so they can engage with their parents and play with each other. There are resources for parents, resources for kids so they can read. There are different types of libraries and things.”

Excel by 5 Learning Under the Oaks was gifted a grant from Wells Fargo to help with the new additions to the facility.
