Gulfport Mayor and Police Chief Speak to Clergy

When it comes to local clergy, law enforcement and local government there are differences and similarities. Today, they joined together over lunch for one thing, setting a positive tone for our community.

Today, Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes and Police Chief Leonard Papania spoke to area clergy about community partnerships among the city government, law enforcement and faith groups. The new quarterly gathering of Mississippi Gulf Coast Clergy crosses denominational, geographical, and racial lines to read scripture, pray for the city and seek opportunities for mission partnerships among local churches.

Westminster Presbyterian Church Pastor S.V. Adolph said, “There is forever the need for a bond between the church and the community and for us to have such a relationship with our governmental leaders is always beneficial for our community.”

Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania said, “One of the fundamental things we really have to look at is the morals of our community. There’s not a greater group of people to sit down with than our ministries that are already set up and established in Gulfport.”

The group meets once every three months.
