Ribbon cutting ceremony for revamped Beach Park in Pascagoula
Over the last two years, renovations have been done to Beach Park in Pascagoula. On Saturday, a ribbon cutting was held to welcome the new additions.
Mayor Demetropoulos, Pascagoula Pride members, and other city council members gathered to celebrate the new improvements done to Beach Park thanks to a generous donation from Barbara Renfore, a native of Pascagoula. Pascagoula Pride President Jane Askew said, “She never married and never had any children. So at the end of her life, she sent a donation to Pascagoula Pride and asked that we use the money on Beach Park. So that’s the funding for the projects we have done so far.”
Pascagoula Pride is dedicated to maintaining the uniqueness that’s within Pascagoula. Mayor Demetropoulos said, “We have our organization Pascagoula Pride that is committed to beautification and improving the appearance across Pascagoula. They coordinated and funded all the improvements.”
The revamping of Beach Park took about two years. They broke it down into two phases. The first phase they focused on entrances of the park and the landscape of park and on the second phase they focused on the pavilions and the restrooms within the park. “We are hoping to have another phase in the near future, just honoring those people that have helped us in the past and some of our executive board members have passed and we would like to honor them.”
Beach Park signs were also added. “Our park didn’t have any signs. Everybody knew it was Beach Park and everybody came and used it, but it didn’t have any signs to identify it.”
A key was presented to the Pascagoula Pride organization for all their hard work and dedication.
