Locals prepare for National Day of Prayer
Many people of faith live in South Mississippi and some will be heading out on Thursday at various local rallies celebrating National Day of Prayer.
‘Lord, pour out your love, life, and liberty,’ this year’s theme for Thursday’s National Day of Prayer. Mississippi National Day of Prayer State Coordinator Debra Brown said, “This is our 70th year. It’s our anniversary year, when Billy Graham came upon the steps of Congress and requested a resolution to be passed in 1952, and since then, for 70 years, we’ve been holding these annual events.”
While last year’s services were held and linked virtually this year there will be several public prayer rallies you can attend in person. Robin Killeen is co-coordinator of the City of Biloxi’s National Day of Prayer and encourages everyone to come out in person to exercise their freedom and prayer muscles. City of Biloxi National Day of Prayer Co-Coordinator Robin Killeen said, “It is a privilege. We have to exercise those rights. We’re blessed.”
Biloxi City Hall will be hosting Thursday’s National Day of Prayer event for the City of Biloxi. At noon, people from various walks and faiths of life are invited to come on out and participate and pray for the various pillars of our community. The City of Biloxi National Day of Prayer Co-Coordinator Patrice Torricelli said, “We’ll be praying for our government. We’ll also be praying for educators and our education systems. We’ll be praying for the voiceless and the military.”
Torricelli says on Thursday they’ll be storming heaven itself, praying throughout South Mississippi on several fronts. “Prayer works. Prayer changes situations and circumstances, but most of all, prayer changes us.”
Killeen said, “You have a lot of options in South Mississippi. We are so excited. There are a lot of cities taking part, and we’ll have that on some of our Facebooks. Just cities everywhere, check with city hall, and I’m sure they’ll have that information.”
