Fifth Annual Rebel Road Trip

Rebel fans on the Coast were in for a treat tonight. Head football coach Hugh Freeze made a stop in Gulfport for the fifth annual Rebel Road Trip. Freeze sat down to sign autographs and talk Rebel football. Here’s what he had to say.
The mood was electric inside the Gulfport Yacht Club as fans packed the house to meet Ole Miss head football coach Hugh Freeze. Starting the season off with Florida State and traveling into Death Valley to face the LSU Tigers, the 2016 schedule will be a tough one for the Rebels. Last year, Ole Miss was the only team to tame the Alabama Crimson Tide’s road to the National Championship in a 43-37 victory. The year before that the Rebels were the only team to defeat Alabama in the regular season. Coach Freeze says expectations are high for his team to defeat the Crimson Tide for the third year in a row. “Our kids believe they can beat them and we’ll be ready to stand toe to toe with them and compete. You need a few breaks in games like that, of course. Hopefully, we can get a few, make some explosive plays that result in points.”
Ole Miss Athletic Director Ross Bjork said, “The question is, what does the moon and Ole Miss have in common and it’s that they control the tide. You know, beating Alabama two years in a row is a big deal. That’s never happened in the history of our program.”
Bjork says with the return of starting quarterback Chad Kelly, the football program is hoping to build on last year’s momentum and make a push for the 2016 National Championship. “We have the Magnolia Bowl, the LSU game trophy, the Egg Bowl trophy and the Sugar Bowl trophy. So, a lot of positive things and then recruiting is going extremely well, not only the guys we signed this year but also what’s in store for next year. It’s just a lot of excitement, energy around football.”
Much of that excitement Coach Freeze says comes from the fans who make it out to show their support along the Rebel Road Trip and Gulfport’s fired up crowd was no disappointment. “I don’t know that you could ask any more out of the Coast fan’s tonight. So, it is exciting that we get to spend some time with them,” said Freeze.
