Fixing up the Saenger Theatre in Biloxi

The Saenger Theatre in Biloxi is getting a facelift of sorts, fitting for any structure that’s 92-years-old.

Today, crews moved seats from the theatre’s auditorium to make way for the next phase of renovations: new scaffolding.

Signs of water damage are visible throughout the historic building, but city leaders say when all of the restoration and renovations are complete, the Saenger Theatre will be revived to her former glory. City of Biloxi Spokesman Vincent Creel said, “This theatre opened in January of 1929. We’re talking about a building, a show place, that’s more than 92 years old. Any time you look at something that’s 92 years old, you’re going to see some wrinkles, some warts, some flaws. What we’re trying to do right now is take care of all that so that we’ll have a grand show place when it’s ready to reopen.”

City officials tell News 25 it is still too early to give a firm date for the reopening of the theatre once renovations are complete, but we’ll continue to keep you updated.
