Coming together to stop the violence in Gulfport
After recent fatal shooting in Gulfport, members of the community are working together to find solutions for youth gun violence.
Saturday’s drive-by shooting left three people hospitalized and days before a separate shooting left two young men, Juan Harvey Jr. and Teraye Preston, dead.
The community says they have had enough of the senseless violence.
Gulfport resident Jeffrey Hill started mentoring youth about two years ago, sharing his “Better Weigh Your Options” motivational speech.
During his seminar, Hill tells his prison story and works with youth and their parents to better relationships and promote positive solutions to problems and issues.
Hill and local Pastor Earl Lee Bankston plan to hold a seminar for the youth in Gulfport. Hill said, “BWYO, Youth don’t pull that Trigger, Teen Summit, where I’m connected with the pastor of the church because when God uses you as a tool and a vessel, you don’t know what form that he’s going to send it in. We’re doing street ministry. We’re going inside buildings and we’re out there on the streets where the altercations are happening at.”
The ‘Youth Don’t Pull that Trigger’ seminar is coming to Gulfport in June.
