Junior Auxiliary of Hancock County hosting Spectrum Social for Autism Awareness Month
The Junior Auxiliary of Hancock County will host their first ever Spectrum Social in honor of Autism Awareness Month this weekend at Fenton Community Center.
The event is a way to bring those in the local community living with autism and their families together to enjoy some fun.
The event is free for families who register. It will include food, crafts, games, and a calming area. The auxiliary partnered with NASA’s Astro Camp to provide Astro activities for the children.
COVID-19 safety precautions will be taken and no more than five families will be allowed at a time.
Organizer Alyece Smith goes into details about the spectrum. “The autism spectrum is a spectrum. It ranges from very mild to very severe. Every child has different troubles, different sensitivities, different gifts. Every child has different specialties. So, there are no two kids on the spectrum that are the same and that does make treatment and therapy planning difficult because not every kid can learn or progress with the same treatments.”
You can register and find more information about the event on the Junior Auxiliary of Hancock County’s Facebook page.
