Mission accomplished: New Life Disaster Relief volunteers help Louisiana residents
It’s been one week since a devastating tornado ripped through Louisiana, leaving dozens of homes and other structures in the area badly damaged.
Residents in Palmetto, Louisiana got a helping hand thanks to some South Mississippi volunteers.
As we first reported last week, New Life Disaster Relief collected donations for a mission to help storm-struck residents in Palmetto and on Monday, these local volunteers made a day trip to share their collected supplies and help make repairs to homes in the area.
New Life Disaster Relief volunteers just returned home to South Mississippi from their relief mission. Ken Wetzel with New Life Disaster Relief said, “We did experience pretty significant winds, which is always difficult when you are on top of a roof and trying to tarp them. However, we made it through, and through the course of the day before we headed home, we were able to tarp four other houses. We did five in total. The devastation again, is very significant.”
Ralph Hayman with New Life Disaster Relief said, “Their whole life is right there in one place, and to see it completely destroyed, it kind of gets to you. Just to be able to know that I can help, that God’s given me the skills to be able to do things to help, that always feels pretty good.”
New Life Disaster Relief credits the success of this trip to the generous outpouring of support from the local community, including a number of people and businesses such as Home Depot in Biloxi and Ocean Springs lumber, who donated items to help with this relief effort.
