Palace Grill in Gulfport gets new owners
In February after 60 years of serving Southern dishes to Coast residents and visitors, the Palace Grill in Gulfport closed its door, but those doors won’t be closed for much longer.
Last week, Bearded Owl Barber Owner Will Devin and his business partner Charles Rik Dew bought the Gulfport diner with the plans of keeping the same name and menu of the historic restaurant.
Devin was a loyal customer of the Palace Grill himself. He ate there every Tuesday and ordered the diner’s famous peach cobbler.
Devin assures patrons that they can expect the same things at the Palace as before just with a little bit of Dew and Devin’s own family touch to it. “The reason I want it is because I’m big into the old school Americana thing. My barber shop is the same way. I wanted to keep that tradition alive because I grew up eating here. My grandma would eat here when she was younger. And so, it’s been kinda a family thing. And I didn’t want to lose that feeling, especially in the day-and-age we’re in now where things are becoming un-personable. And dinner, food in general, in the South is one of those things that brings families together and I knew how much it meant to everybody down here, because it meant the same to me.”
Devin and Dew hope to open the Palace Grill for business by the end of April after some small repairs and touch-ups.
