Pass Christian candidates speak at town hall forum
Tonight, voters in the Pass learned more about the candidates who wish to represent them for the next four years.
A candidates town hall forum was sponsored by the Gazebo Gazette and held at the Pass Christian High School gym.
Those in attendance heard remarks from outgoing Pass Christian Mayor Chipper McDermott and School District Superintendent Dr. Carla Evers.
Candidates for Board of Alderman seats and the open mayoral race discussed topics ranging from youth outreach to local infrastructure and state of the local harbor.
Moderators also presented questions submitted from the public and from three student panelists from Pass Christian High. Student Panelist Van Truong said, “Being able to vote this year, I’m able to see my candidates for what their views are and to get directly connected with them and how they’ll play a part in my community.”
Master of Ceremonies Hunter Dawkins said, “The community really gets to see the candidates per se, and what they’re focused on, not so much a personal attack here or there or anywhere else, it’s more about what’s this candidate, what’s their opinion, how are they going to improve the city.”
Along with the cities of Moss Point, Ocean Springs, and Pascagoula in Jackson County, Pass Christian is the other Coast city that is guaranteed to have a new mayor following this election cycle.
