Biloxi proclaims March as ‘Irish Heritage Month’

St. Patrick’s Day has come and gone, but Irish celebrations haven’t stopped in Biloxi for the month of March.

At today’s Biloxi City Council meeting, Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich put on his green jacket and drank green punch to celebrate with members of the Hibernia Marching Society.

Mayor Gilich presented the society with an official proclamation designating March as ‘Irish Heritage Month.’

Just this month alone, the Marching Society turned the Biloxi Lighthouse green and held their St. Patrick’s Day race and members say they’re thrilled to receive the recognition. Hibernia Marching Society President Celeste O’Keefe said, “It really means a lot for the City of Biloxi to take their time out and to do this for the Irish. There were so many Irish that have settled here, and there’s so many Irish still here, and as you may know, FoFo Gilich was one of our Grand Marshals.”
