Plans For Sand Beach Boardwalk

Plans are slowly being released for a new boardwalk that could soon make foot and bike travel easier along the Coast.

The Sand Beach Boardwalk would likely stretch from Treasure Bay Casino about two miles to Rodenberg Avenue. Hopes are the new boardwalk would help visitors and residents on Highway 90 easily travel on foot from one restaurant to another. There would also be a hub or pavilion along the boardwalk at Highway 90 and Veterans Avenue. Harrison County Board President Beverly Martin said, “It’s a joint project between the county and the city. The idea is to have a 10 foot wide boardwalk behind those restaurants connecting. We’ll start hopefully from Treasure Bay through Camelia to connect those restaurants to encourage walkability. Similar to what they have at the wharf in Orange Beach and maybe have vendors out there and just create a synergy so the tourist can just go from place to place.”

The two to three million dollar project will hopefully be paid for by a tidelands grant.
