Long Beach Political Debate at Harper McCaughan Town Green

With primaries for local elections just around the corner, cities along the Gulf Coast are beginning to host events for the community to get to know its candidates including Long Beach.

Saturday, the Friendly City will be holding a political debate for the public to come out and meet the city’s candidates for mayor, aldermen, and alderman at large.

Three Long Beach High School AP students and three citizens selected from the community will be the panelists for the debate. Bill Lavers, the executive director of the Harrison County Development Commission, will be the moderator and emcee.

The debate will consist of three rounds of questions between candidates along with rebuttals. Gazebo Gazette Owner and Publisher Hunter Dawkins said, “Well I hope they get to see candidates and see how they feel and how– the true person, not necessarily somebody that you hear about. Not somebody that you hear a rumor about. You want to hear and you can see them. You can actually go talk to them at the event– obviously inside the realm, but you can make face-to-face conversation with them. You can at least decide on what your opinion is on what you feel.”

The debate will take place Saturday from noon until 3 p.m. at the Harper McCaughan Town Green.
