Sentencing for Ocean Springs businessman Scott Walker postponed
Chancery Court Judge Neil Harris has appointed a guardian ad litem, or a court investigator, to examine Ocean Springs businessman Scott Walker’s health before he is sentenced on a criminal contempt charge.
Harris had initially sentenced Walker to 30 days in jail and a $100 fine during a hearing Tuesday due to Walker’s unbecoming behavior in the courtroom.
However, the judge chose to take a different approach when Walker arrived at the court Wednesday and postponed the sentencing.
Harris appointed attorney Heather Wagner, an expert in domestic abuse, to look into Walker’s living situation.
Wagner will monitor Walker’s responsibilities to keep his three boys while his wife works as well as monitoring his financial situation and mental health. Walker also cares for his elderly parents.
The criminal contempt charge actually came against him during a guardianship hearing involving his parents, who are now wards of the court.
Wagner will make recommendations for Walker’s sentencing to Judge Harris before he reconvenes court on March 17th.
