Gulfport officer cleared in pedestrian death
A lengthy investigation regarding an officer-involved fatal collision comes to a close today.
A grand jury cleared Gulfport Police Officer Tony Alves of any wrongdoing in the death of 54-year-old Edgar Lambert. Lambert was walking across Highway 49 when he was hit and killed by Alves’ patrol car on January 19th.
Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania tells News 25 Officer Alves attempted several life-saving procedures immediately following the collision.
Although the grand jury found that no criminal conduct was involved in the matter, the Gulfport Police Department still recognizes this is a tragic incident for all parties involved.
