Gulfport Woman Safe after Being Kidnapped

A Gulfport man is charged with what authorities are calling the kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend. Forty-eight year-old Ernie Lizana has been arrested after police say he assaulted and forced the victim into his car last night.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department says this is where Lizana lives and that he has a long criminal history. Authorities say the victim was outside her home taking out the trash when Lizana shoved the victim into his vehicle. She later escaped. Police arrested him in a Gulfport subdivision, an area that residents say is usually pretty safe. Minnie Belvin lives in the neighborhood where the arrest was made. She said, “We have mostly everybody who protects everybody around here, but last night was just an unfortunate thing. Nobody got to hear it. I’m glad she got away without getting murdered because that’s the main thing.”
The victim’s name is not being released. Authorities tell News 25 she escaped after she convinced Lizana to drive back to a neighbor’s house.
Lizana will be taken to jail once he gets out of the hospital where he is being treated for bites he suffered from K-9’s Gulfport police used to locate him.
