Harrison Central Swimmer Makes History
One Gulf Coast swimmer made school history Wednesday morning.
Harrison Central High School senior Kyjana Webber signed to swim for the University of Sioux Falls South Dakota on Wednesday. When she signed on the dotted line, she became the first swimmer in school history to go to a school on a swimming scholarship.
During her time at Harrison Central, she’s broken records, won medals and made friends for a lifetime. She tells News 25 today was the culmination of years of hard work. “I’ve been trying for about four or five years been swimming seriously and putting my heart and effort into it, trying to get a scholarship so I don’t have to worry about college when I grow up. I’m really excited because I’m shaking right now! I really just can’t wait to go. I went up for a tour and I just loved it. I fell in love with it.”
Webber tells News 25 as a freshman she was the first swimmer in school history to make it to the podium.
