George County School District Superintendent resigns

At a weekend meeting of the George County School Board, Superintendent Wade Whitney asked to be relieved from his contract effective immediately.

Whitney asked to be released due to personal reasons. It’s unclear right now exactly what those personal reasons are.

The board appointed Career and Technical Education Coordinator Jeff Mathis as interim superintendent.
