Southern landmark dedication in Biloxi

May is Preservation Month for Biloxi and the celebration is still in full bloom.
The ribbon was officially cut on the oldest French colonial cemetery park during a dedication ceremony at the Biloxi Visitors Center this afternoon. After the dedication, the band Blackwater Brass played and food was served.
The park contains remains of 32 French servants from the 1700s and is centered around the weeping angel statue outside the visitors center.
Officials with the DMR and the Mississippi Gulf Coast National Heritage Area spent three years designing the French inspired garden. Gulf Coast National Heritage Area Director Rhonda Price said, “Just looking back at some of those reminders of what our ancestors went through to get us where we are today. We have such innovative technology. It’s nice to have reminders such as this garden where people can come and reflect on their past, their ancestors.”
The cemetery park has four information markers so visitors can learn more about its history.
