No Hate in our State Rally in Gulfport
In light of a rally supporting the Religious Accommodations Act today in Jackson, LGBT activists and allies want to make sure their voice is heard too.
Gulfport resident and LGBT activist Charlotte Ferguson will host a public rally at Jones Park today at the Highway 90, Highway 49 intersection at 12 p.m. The counter protest is to coincide with the Mississippi Prayer Rally being held by Franklin Graham’s Decision America Tour in Jackson today.
While the anti HB1523 peacefully rally will be held on the Coast, the message to state Legislators will be loud and clear. Rally participant Bethany Bayard said, “Some of these people have been told their whole live, by either their parents, teachers or even churches, that they’re a second class citizen and a lot of these folks have come a long way and learning ‘hey, that’s not necessarily true, you know, that’s just their opinion.’ Now we have our government of our state coming in and reinforcing those beliefs.”
Participants are encouraged to bring signs to display in support of the message of the rally.
