Derick Hall’s incredible journey from the NICU to the NFL
Derrick Hall was born at Memorial Health System in Gulfport, arriving four months premature and weighing just over two pounds. Born without a heartbeat, he spent the first part of his life in the NICU, fighting to survive.
Defying the odds, he grew into a football star, earning a scholarship to Auburn and later being drafted into the NFL by the Seattle Seahawks. Now, he’s returning to the very place where his incredible journey began.
Derrick spent five months in the NICU, relying on a ventilator to survive. Doctors advised his mother, Stacey, to end life support. But she refused to give up, continuing to fight for her son.
Now, the little baby she fought for has grown into a role model and inspiration for his community. Derrick is a testament to the resilience of the Mississippi Gulf Coast community, and his journey will inspire children who start their lives facing incredible odds.
