Loved ones gather to honor Nikyra Dedeaux

Today, loved ones are gathering to honor Nikyra Dedeaux, an 18-year-old of Gulfport who was killed during the terrorist attack in New Orleans.

Family and friends remember Nikyra as a vibrant, joyful soul who made it her mission to spread love wherever she went. Her cousin, Aamori Smith, was by her side celebrating the New Year when the tragic attack occurred.

When Jordyn Lassiter asked Aamori what she wanted people who didn’t know Nikyra to understand about her beloved cousin, she said Nikyra was not only a loving person, but a giving person. 

In this time of mourning, Nikyra’s legacy shines brighter than ever. Our community is standing strong, showing resilience in the face of violence and honoring the joy she brought to those around her.
