Gautier student dies after collapsing at high school field house

A 15-year-old Gautier High student died Thursday after collapsing at the school’s field house.

Mayor Casey Vaughn identified the student as 15-year-old Shermarion Miner in a post on his social media page.

Vaughn said in his post, “I share with you Psalm 62:7-8: 7 My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. 8 Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.

“Remember, WE are Gautier STRONG!”

According to Police Chief David Bever, his department got a call about 3:40 p.m. about a medical emergency at the school.

The student was taken to Ocean Springs Hospital, where he later died. The cause is unknown.

Pascagoula-Gautier School District also released a statement Friday morning.
