Gulf Hills Hotel hosts birthday bash for Elvis Presley’s 90th birthday
Wednesday marked the 90th birthday for the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley, and some of his biggest fans gathered in Ocean Springs to celebrate his memory.
At the Sunset Lounge inside the Gulf Hills Hotel, a birthday bash was held to honor one of the most influential figures in American history, who also had deep roots within the hotel itself.
“Elvis frequented the Gulf Hills in the 1950’s so his legacy is really important to the hotel and to the community, so we like to preserve that and celebrate him,” said Gulf Hills Hotel co-owner Jennifer Jones.
The night was filled with Elvis bingo, Elvis desserts, and of course as much of Elvis’s music as you could handle. The biggest surprise came towards the end of the night, when the hotel’s original statue of
Elvis was revealed with a coastal makeover.
“He’s obviously a recognizable person, his features, mannerisms, so I was trying to take that and make it a little less literal but more of a coastal camouflage kind of feeling, make it very human. Just make it fun,” said Julia Reyes, the artist responsible for the statue’s transformation.
