The road to State may be tough, but the Biloxi Lady Indians have their eyes on the prize!
We’ve officially reached 2025, and while a lot of people use the new year to try something different or change something about themselves, the Lady Indian basketball team hopes to stay their true, tough selves. Learn more about the motto of the only undefeated team left on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
“It’s tough,” said Head Coach Devin Hill. “You don’t have to be a gym rat and spend all your time in the gym. You don’t have to devote your life to basketball. For our program, you just have to be tough.”
“We are tenacious, outlasting, unyielding, gritty, and hardworking and that’s kind of our motto for everything we do,” said Aubrey Hill. “Tough people win.”
The Biloxi Girls Basketball team has proven their toughness this 2024-25 season as they remain the only undefeated program on the coast with an overall record of 18-0. Currently ranked first in the state and their division, the Indians are determined to turn the pressure into motivation.
“Being tougher and being able to handle all the pressures and expectations and just being able to handle all of that that comes with winning,’ said center Zaniya Johnson. “All of that is what we’re trying to achieve.”
“Pressure is a privilege so I’m just honored and I think that we are going to continue to get better as the season goes on and I’m excited to see what we do,” Hill said.
The red and white are no strangers to success, competing in the final four in Jackson and coming up shy by just five points. This year they’re doing everything it takes to bring home the gold ball.
“We’re not bashful about it. We don’t back away from talking about it. We are chasing the gold ball. That is our goal,” said Coach Hill. “This is year nine for me at Biloxi and when I came here I came to build a championship program. We’ve knocked on the door with quarterfinals and semifinals, and we’ve got another hurdle we’ve got to get over this year. That’s been our goal. We want to win the last game.”
“It’s to bring it back home!” Hill said. “We worked really really hard in the preseason and continued to do it, so we’re on the run.”
“You know, just show people that we’re capable. We’re capable of winning state this year. That’s ultimately the endgame.”
The Indians will continue their road to State as they host St. Martin on Tuesday. We look forward to seeing what they continue to accomplish in the year 2025!
