James Ray Saucier died of his injuries from the gunshot, according to his attorney, Donald Rafferty.

“The people in the clerk’s office tried to save his life,” Rafferty said.

Saucier was in court for a divorce proceeding, Rafferty said. Afterward, Rafferty was in the clerk’s office to sign paperwork and heard the gunshots.

As they were leaving the courthouse, Saucier’s wife, Tanya , shot her husband. Rafferty said she also pointed her weapon at her own attorney, Jensen Owen of Poplarville. Tanya Saucier was apprehended and taken into custody by officers from the Poplarville Police Department.

Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case.

James Saucier was charged with aggravated domestic violence last year. Rafferty said that Tanya Saucier said that her husband shot her. Rafferty said that charge led to him taking James Saucier on as a client.
