Vancleave’s David Robinson signs to join the best fishing team in the nation, the University of Montevallo!
We’re starting things off with huge news out of Vancleave High School as one of their own had a historical signing day celebration! Senior David Robinson is Vancleave’s very first student to sign a fishing scholarship. He isn’t just signing to any program, but the top fishing program in the nation which is the University of Motevallo.
A few of Robinson’s outstanding accomplishments include winning the 2023 Bass-tastic State Championship with his partner, ranking 10th out of 109 kids in the 2023 Combine, and being named the Angler of the Year for Bass Nation. Robinson has wanted to fish ever since he first picked up a pole and he’s honored to represent Vancleave.
“For a long time I’ve always wanted to fish ever since I first picked up a fishing pole when I was little. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” said Robinson. “I’m really honored to be going to the number one school that college has to offer me. To be the best you have to compete with the best. It’s truly a blessing to be the first one from Vancleave to do it. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and nobody here has ever done it before, and to be the first is really a blessing to me.”
“It’s super awesome that he’s the first and he gets to represent Vancleave being the first fishing kid to go. Having the connection to the program I’m sure will stick with him forever so it’s just nice to see these kids can have a future with fishing,” said Ashley Rainey with the Vancleave Bass Fishing team.
Truly an outstanding accomplishment and a great day for Vancleave High School. Congratulations, David!
