Gautier Football makes history and remains hungry for State Championship title

We’re starting off the week on a high note as one of our local football programs made history and is continuing to write their story in the record books. The Gautier Gators defeated Brookhaven last Friday with a final score of 37-35. Not only did they punch their ticket to the 2024 State Championship, but they also claimed their very first South State title ever in school history.

Being the regional champions and currently riding an 11-game win streak, the Gators have hosted every playoff game up until this point. It’s safe to say they’re thankful this week isn’t at the swamp, and they’re ready to take on the state championship in Hattiesburg at The Rock.

“It means everything. I just give thanks to God that He brought us in this situation,” said senior wide receiver Sebastian Gonzalez. “We’ve been through a lot this year and I’m just really thankful we’re here. We have something to prove. We have the chance to make history. We already have, but the job is not finished and we just want to win it all and do it for Gautier.”

“It means a lot to be able to be with my brothers out here my last year and making history like this. Few years ago I didn’t expect to get this far in football, but I’m thankful that I’m able to make history with my brothers. It means a lot to us and we’re trying to win it all,” said offensive lineman Jerry Young.

“You just want to give your kids everlasting memories,” said Head Coach Marc High. “I hope down the road they’ll be able to remember this but it’s like we’ve told them all week, the job is not finished. We didn’t come this far to come this far. We came here for the big goal at hand. I think the kids are ready for it and we’ll know more later this week.”
