The body of a shrimper who disappeared has been recovered.

The body of a shrimper who disappeared on Sunday has been recovered. Richard Kopszywa of Biloxi was found by a paddleboarder earlier this morning near Deer Island.

The coroner confirmed the identity, noting that there were no signs of obvious trauma. An investigation into the cause of death is ongoing.

Kopszywa was inducted into the Maritime Industry and Seafood Museum’s Hall of Fame as a captain.

He also operated the oldest known biloxi lugger, that ship also being inducted into the hall of fame. In the hall of Fame biography, Kopszywa was remembered for his love and passion in every act of kindness he performed along the Gulf Coast.

He was 75 years old.
